View Full Version : relocate central air unit

I had to dig down about 4-5 inches and locate my concrete slab that my unit is setting on. I want to elevate the slab/unit in some way. Other than making sure that i pull the disconnect by the unit, what other safety precautions do i need to take? IE. protecting/removing the two rigid lines going into the unit at the ground level.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hello OSURED and Welcome to the Do It Yourself Web Site.

Other then relocating or raising up the lines, which should be done by a licensed A/C person, build a platforum frame using angle irons. The raw materials are available at local building supply dealers.

Once the platform frame is built, attach it to the slab using concrete bolts. The carbide bit and bolts available at supply dealers also.

Then attach the A/C to the frame and PRESTO! That part of the task completed.

There should be <maybe> shut off valves close to the A/C unit to preserve the freon in the lines. They look like air valve stems on the rims of a vehicle. Both should have caps on them that get removed first.

Oh Yeah! Do turn off the electrical power prior to attempt the task after the angle iron platform is built and the unit is physically about to be moved.
