I recently purchased a home that has an out of date tv antenna on the roof of the home. All that remains is a 4 feet metal pole sticking up from the roof. What can I do to get rid of this pole and do I need to patch up the hole of the roof once I get it off? Is this something that would best be done by a professional? Thank you.

Good Afternoon, Nadine:

Of course you need to get on the roof to verify this but I would surmise that the antenna mounting bracket is bolted to the roof on top of the shingles. You can remove the bracket and the remaining pipe.

You can go to just about any good hardware store (ACE, TrueValue, etc.) and pick up a can of patching tar for any holes that are left behind from the removal. But, it is some very gooey stuff, believe me. Once it is set up and has dried in the sun, though, it makes a firm water tight seal to prevent leaks from the antenna removal.
