I am painting a small bathroom. I have chosen a border for the top of the wall. Should I use the same color that the border is trimmed in to paint the wall. It is a blue. There is a small amount of yellow in the border. It is a gold color. I was wondering if you match the color to a main color in the border or what? What is the decorator's rule of thumb for borders and paints?

Do you want the border to show up or blend in? Once you know that, the choice is easy.
Use the same color to blend and an accent color to bring attention to it.
If the room is very small I would blend, if it is a large room I would use an accent color.

Picking the lightest color in the border will tend to make the room look larger. It is a matter of personal choice as to the mood you want to create in the bath. I have seen some very beautiful small baths painted in dark rich colors with a large mirror to reflect light.
