We have just bought a house and one of the bedrooms has a mural painted on the ceiling. We want to completely remove the mural, since it has some weird (maybe satanic) designs. What options do we have on removing this?

THANKS

Since you do not know if the mural is made of oil based paint or latex paint, I would recommend an oil bsed stain blocking primer. The primer will block out the colors of the mural and the smell is only mineral spirits. Then paint over it with a few coats of latex.

Thanks, that will be our last resort. Do you know of any way in which we can completely remove with out painting over it. I am very uncomfortable with this in my home and I want it off, even if it means putting a new ceiling. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks

I understand your feelings about the mural and why you want it out of your house and not just covered. One option would be to try some of the commercial strippers that are user friendly. Someone in a previous question, suggested Peel Away as a very friedly stripper that is easy to use. You could also sand it away and then paint but that is messy. And of course you could have the ceiling replaced.

Thanks so much for your suggestion, I will try the Peel Away. Again, thank you.
