I am having problems with my TV. Can someone help? The problem is that when I turn the TV on the picture is reduced vertically to the middle of the screen. If you lightly hit the TV on the side, the picture will go to its normal size briefly and return back to the middle.

Good Afternoon, sonorense64:
You didn't specify what kind of set or any details so I will just reply in generalities:
The condition is known as "vertical collapse". From the sounds of your problem description, it is most likely Japanese and you have a bad solder connection. Over time, the heat within the set causes a poor solder connection to fail completely and the set will fail.
Given the information you provided, I would check the circuits in and around the vertical oscillator or Vertical Driver.
I feel strongly a low heat soldering gun, a little 60-40 electronic solder, and a little patience will solve your problem. You can locate the area by removing the back of the set, turning it on, and tapping around lightly with a non-conductive probe (plastic or wood). When you find the sensitive spot that makes the picture expand, turn it off and do a little reconnection of the solder points on the circuit board.
