I will be moving into a small loft apartment in August and am thinking about constructing a raised level with stairs that I can slide my bed under to conserve space. The main studio is 16'8" by 16'8" and is flanked on one side by a wall kitchen and a small patio on the other. The ceiling is 9 to 10 ft high. The floor is stained concrete and wood, and ofcourse the walls are white. The bathroom and closet rooms take up the rest of the 533 square feet. The overall feel of the apartment is very "rugged, industrial," and I would like to incorporate these elements into the design of the platform. Any ideas?

I am looking for someone with a good sense of design and experience in construction to give me guidance as I try to complete this project over the next few months. Appreciate any help you could offer. Thank-you for your time.

Thats where you will find the people that can help you build your loft. I help a lot of people with the decorating aspect of a room but I don't see too much in the building. Once you have the loft made I can help you in painting it as well as what to do about the floor and walls, windows etc...

I am not sure what it is you want to build but one idea to save space is to make a loft bed. The bed would be up on top and an office space would be under that.

Another idea would be to use a day bed as a sofa (daytime) and at night it would be your bed.

The loft bed could be a double bed where as the day bed would be a twin only.

Hope this helps you.
