What is the best way to remove floor tile from a bathtub surround other than breaking it.

I have one tile I need to remove (and would like to reuse) to gain access to a wirlpool valve. The tile is on a wood base with approx 1/4" grout line. The tile is 10" x 8".

Thanks

I just did this in my bathroom. All you do is take a chisel and a hammer. place chisel along grout and hammer. light enough not to break the tile but hard enough to get through the grout. the question is: what are you doing after you remove the tile??

Easy on the hammering. Get a tool called a "grout saw" from either a tile supply store or Home Depot, etc. Saw the grout all the way down to the wood substrate. Then you might be able to gently tap out the remaining grout with a very small cold chisel and a very light hammer.

I think then you might be able to drill a small hole or two and get a "key hole" saw into the wood.

I bought the grout saw. I found it didn't do much, and it took way to long. But whatever, be very careful!!

Chrissylee,

The grout is concrete. It's not easy to cut. But the grout saw does work if you stay with it. And it is important to cut the grout, in order to avoid damaging the adjacent pieces of tile when you use the hammer.
