I have a ceramic tile floor that is in good shape (i.e still well bonded to the subfloor) and is laid on a cement slab. I want to replace the tile because their look is dated. I think they were orginally bonded with thin set morter. What is the easiest way to remove them from the subfloor and prepare the subfloor for new tile. I would imagine the tiles will break in pieces as I try to remove them and I will be left with a rough subfloor afterwards. Tiling over the current tile is not an option.

thanks in advance.

I use a De Walt roto hammer with a 1-1/2 in. chipping blade. Yes, it's a mess.
