I found a 13 in. Magnovox tv vcr in one and it has the model date as 1999 but the picture is grey with a shadow.small rainbows appear too, is this a score and repairable or should I have left it alone? The vcr works but has no picture either. The sound is very clear though.

Good Evening, alley shoppe:

One cardinal rule about buying used equipment is to plug it in and see if it works. But, then again, you already know that.

What you have there is a fairly nice unit when it is running. But, more often than not, they have problems. The unit is extremely labor intensive.

True to Phillips/Magnavox quality, the problem would appear to be centered in the power supply section of the receiver. More than likely, one of the voltages has disappeared leaving you with a defunct unit.

If you can get it apart, the parts won't cost much. But, getting it apart far enough to make a repair is an all day job. It's your choice. Were the choice mine, I'd toss it.
