How do you go about painting over contact paper? I recently purchased a house and the previous owner used contact paper on the bathroom walls rather than wallpaper. I would like to paint over the paper because when I try to peel it off it takes the drywall paper with it. Would I use liquid sand to prep the wall? Anyone have any ideas or thoughts on what would work? Thanks for your help!

Walls only?
Dry area?
Cover the area with 1/4" luan plywood, then prime, then paint or paper or texture as you want. You can buy plycap moulding to cover the top (if that applies in your situation). You'll pay bout $.30 per sq ft for the material. Cheaper is 1/4" sheetrock, but the time for installation is more, 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

my best, good luck
