I recently purchased a Black & Decker variable speed jig saw. I've been trying to cut out a pattern in the center of my wood. The manual for the saw gives directions for pocket cutting, but it doesn't seem to be working. It says to tip the saw forward with the front edge of the shoe firmly on the woods surface, making sure the blade isn't touching the wood. Once the saw is at maximum speed I am supposed to bring the blade down inot the wood. Everytime I try to bring the saw down into the wood, the blade bounces off and tears at the wood's surface. If anyone has any sugestions how to properly do this I would like to know.

seallen,
The directions you explained are correct, however this is a very difficult technique. If there is any way to pre-drill a hole for the saw blade, go that route.
