The wall out side my kitchen was opened to allow the plumber to repair the pipes. How do you repair this hole and with what material?

Try "Non-Shrink" grout and trowel it in. Don't mix it too soupy, keep it on the dry side. This also depends on a lot of things such as size and configuration of the hole, the location, is it on ground level?, 4 ft up? etc., what type of block are you trying to match? precision?, slump?, split face?
