Flooring Tile - slate flooring

I was looking into installing a slate floor in my bathroom, but there doesn't seem to be much information out that is specifically for slate. Is putting slate in the bathroom a bad idea? If so, why? How does it cut - like ceramic tile and with a ceramic tile cutter?

Slate is a little tough to install. Like any rough cut stone, the peices are not all the same thickness. You compensate for this by building the thinner pieces up with additional thin set as you go.

You'll also find that the pieces are not all the same in their other two dimensions, and there will be variations in shade, color and texture. It's important to unpack all your pieces and spread them around before you begin.

And yes, all cuts are made with a diamond wet saw. Tile cutters won't work.

Thanks for all the good tips & information! I have a wet cutting saw from doing stained glass windows, so I'll try using that on a sample tile to get the feel of how it cuts.
