I have installed tile on top of my countertops in my kitchen. The counter was basic laminate glued to particle board. I put 1/4" backerboard on top of the counter and installed the tile. All of this went smoothly. However, now I need advice on how to put the bullnose on the side of the counter. The sides of the counter are as follows: 5/8" plywood (bottom), 1 1/2" Laminate counter top (middle), and 1/4" Wonderboard. I put the bullnose on the ends with mastic, but it did not adhere to the laminate. I need advice on what material I could use on the ends of the counter. The only problem is is that I am limited on how thick this material can be. I have looked at running 1/4" Wonderboard along the perimeter of the counter, but the gap it leaves is too big.
Is there any material I could use to help this bullnose adhere to the ends of the countertop? I have heard that roofing paper might work, but I do not know! Please help!

Hi Dave,
The formica may need roughing up. Sand it with a course sandpaper and then clean it thoroughly -- let it dry.
Mastic should work. A better method, of course, would be to put strips of the backer board along the edge with thin set and muchas nails. No problem sticking the tile to that.
