I own a 15 room victorian home, built 1900. It has 3 marble fireplaces, one is in a room which I never use. I have decided to make a drastic change! I want to move one of the arch shaped with mantle marble fireplaces to my bed room. A previous owner, at some point, removed the fireplace from the bedroom. The entrance to the flue has been cover with sheetrock and painted over. Everything is ready to go except my big question.
How do you remove a marble fireplace? How many pieces are we usually looking at? Is there a particularly good spot to start? Should I take off the mantle first, or the sides? thanks for the help.

I can't answer your question, but for a home built in 1900, I would highly recommend you have a profession chimney sweep inspect it if you plan on using it! Most important thing is that it has a flue liner in it, most houses that old don't.
