I am trying to strip some kitchen cabinets. They are a very light wood with a fairly dark stain on them. They were obviously put on their hinges and then stained. I am now using one of the new orange, low-toxicity strippers. It said to let sit for 20-30 minutes. I let it sit for 30 min. the first time and while some of the stain came up, not all appeared to. I reapplied and let sit for an hour. No real change. The one door that I did still seems almost as dark as its mates. I want to restain a new color and would prefer not to use the toxic type of stripper. Should I let this stripper sit overnight? Thanks.

Jeff:
Regardless of what the label may say, most strippers don't do much (if anything) for stain removal. You need a 2 part bleach.
It's sold under various brand names but it has two containers, one with sodium hydroxide, the other with hydrogen peroxide. Combined, they have a very high oxidizing action that should do the trick. They are not dangerousm, per se, but, as with all chemicals, follow the directions.
