Hello,
i recently inherited a 60 inch zenith projection tv manufactured in august of 1998
the problem is when vieving the tv, the screen has a 'pincushon' effect where the top and bottom of the image is concaved inward. i have removed the back of the tv to have a look and i cant seem to find any adustments other than saturation levels and focus for each of the 3 crts. other than this and a slight offset of the crts which i assume is a result of this effect, the image is normal. what bothers me is all 3 crts are exibiting the same behavior and all started at the same time. unfortunatly the inside lens of the crt cannot be removed. it apears to be part of the unit so i cannot tell what the actual displayed image looks like. Computer monitors and such have an adjustment for this.
any help would be greatly appreciated as it is a $1500 unit and id rather not spend $500 for a service call. I have a degree in electronis and was an Electronics Technician in the navy, so i have tchnical skills.
thank you

Good Morning, blkpanthr:
The pincushioning control is part of the convergence circuit on these three gun units. To access it, you have to take the lid off the unit and get into the gun electronics.
If you are savvy enough to work on the beast, then the best thing to do is get a manual and a set of schematics on the electronics. Contact Zenith first and see if they have one. It will probably cost you about $35.
Either the pincushion coil has shorted or there is a diode in that same circuit that fails now and then. This isn't going to be brain surgery if you have a handle on electronics. And, for the record, I am a retired Chief Fire Control Technician. Fair winds and following seas.

Finding parts and manuals on Zenith products can be a real chore. You can expect zilch from the company, itself. One place that has been good about coming up with parts, schematics, etc. is Union Electronic Distributors. You might give them a check and get some data on the unit before you start tearing it down. You can find them at
