Hello, actually this is Mrs. Wilson but didn't want handyman stuff coming to my email as hubby is the handyman haha. We are getting ready to move into a new house with a pink tub and sink. Has anyone here ever painted a tub and sink? If so is it hard and how did you do it? This house is around 30 yrs old it is a prefab home that came in two pcs. It is pretty sound and well insulated, but the tub and sink in bath are pink and kitchen is turquiose. So we were thinking that painting would save us some money, but don't know anyone who has ever done it. So all you tubbers out there drop us a line. Thanks Rex and Judi

Hi you tubbers,
We have an old house too (1928). Fortunately we don't have a pink bathroom. However, we do have the original white tile that has been painted over with something in a bone color.(or at least I think that it is bone)
Well, since some that had flaked off, I thought that Rustoleum (oil based) would be a decent coverall. If it works for outdoor furniture and metal railings etc... it will work on a tub. It did cover the shower walls nicely, but the tub is not as sturdy. The soap is eating it away and now is flaking again.
I would suggest either going with a new tub and matching fixtures, or hiring a reglazer to come in and redo the color. The Home Depot-like epoxy tub paints can take up to a week to dry, so if you only have one tub, that could be a problem. We are on the path of replacement ourselves-- Hope that this helps.
Good luck!!

We painted some tile around an old (similarly colored 1950s vintage) tub with white epoxy paint. It lasted a few years, but the wet areas have peeled now. The paint was sold as tub paint. If you use it, be sure to ventilate well, because it is very high in VOCs.
I think you might do better having someone come in and reglaze the tub. I've seen services that will do this for a couple hundred bucks or so. I don't have any experience with this process, but I think it is likely to be better than painting.
Good luck!

Thanks for the replies, we have decided to hire someone t help us with the tub, he is willing to do the painting for 35 to 70 dollars depending if he is in area or has to come special. He says it is not hard to use the paint kits the hard part is getting the tub really clean. New tub out of budget right now so sure hope this takes care of our temp problem of hubby not wanting to take bath in pink tub.
