My Zenith Advanced System 3 model S2721H television recently began showing very thin parallel horizontal green lines across the screen. The color tint goes from being OK to slightly green at times. The picture is still visible but the thin green lines are always visible. When my satellite receiver is turned off, the snow on the screen is green and the lines can be seen. What could be the problem and is this a minor or major repair? Thanks.

Good afternoon, mr matson:

Sorry I didn't get to this sooner but was caught in a move to a new State. I just got the computer back on line again.

All the problems with green lines, green snow, etc. all point to a G-Y amplifier in the television set. G-Y means green minus yellow. The amplifier is running "hot" which means it is producing more green than is necessary for the set. On some occassions, the green gun in the picture tube may be shorted.

In either case, the back has to come off and some circuit diagnostics have to occur. It will not get better on its own and may get worse to the point where the entire picture is green.
