I would like to build a simple deck in my backyard. The deck will be 16' up against the back of house and 12' out into the yard. Also the deck would be 1 1/2' off the ground. The ground is level with grass.
What is required as for post if any for the hieght? I should say that the deck will 1 1/2' from top of deck to ground.
Also do I need to attached to the house and if so what is th best way. I have the cement block area exposed from the ground up to about 1'.
Maybe at a later time I would like to add railing to the sides that would not either touch the house or fence. The railing would only be on two ajoining sides.
How should I prepare the ground area that would be covered by the deck?
Thank You For Your Help

Go to your local lumber yard or home center and ask them for a "FREE" deck planning brochure produced by Simpson Strong-Tie. The brochures will help you plan the entire project and also help you in the construction phase.

You may also want to check out http://www.dekplans.com, I just built a 10x12 deck using there system and it took me one and a half days from start to finish.
They will send you plans or you can down load them.
Home Depot carries the tiers from this company, it is a simple way to go.
Good luck
