Here goes... I have 18' round pool that I am trying to find or create plans that will put the edge of the deck over the wall of the pool. My problem is , all my designs and those I've seen (using 2 x 10) put the floor height about 1 1/2 feet above the water. I would like to get the deck closer to the water. I think I should be using a cantilever to get the deck over the pool but how beefy do the joists have to be? I was thinking 16"OC or 12"OC and using one of the new synthetic materials for the floor. I need to keep in mind that I need to have about 2" between whatever extends over the pool and the top of the pool wall, clearance for the cover. Any suggestions? Thanks

I have a 27x27 ft pool, l wanted same as you, so bigger kids wouldn't step on top of pool wall.
My friend built mine, he put 4x4 post from pool post to pool post. Then he nailed 2"x 10" or 2"x 8" not sure to all four posts, nailed to post about 6 inches above pool walls.
Then put 2"x 6" on floor over 2x8 or 2x10's and hung them over pool wall about 2-3 inches.
Not sure if that helps you or not l hope so james1
