I am staining a wood media cabinet made of alder which has several pieces to it. I left the stain on one piece too long and now it is too dark. I want to take this stain off. Will mineral spirits take this off? If not what should I use? The stain that I am using is Olympic Red Oak wood stain.

Lacquer thinner combined with 0000 steel wool and elbow grease will remove some, but you may have to sand the piece to get it light enough.
