Do your self a favor and don't get stuck in the installation area. Yes, it's good to know, but for someone with tech experience, it's a dead end street. Plus, do your homework and read/know the tech info on what you install. It is very easy to learn bad habits from the beginning. Example is purging instead of vacuuming a new install down to between 1000-400 microns. Or by using exsisting charge lines that are too small when doing a change out/up grade.

Most times you have a set pattern. You drill this, you pipe that, you do a good job,and you gain experience.Unless you plan on being the leading TECH for your company on installs try to keep it 50/50.A GOOD SERVICE TECH IS ALWAYS IN DEMAND,A TECH WHO DOES INSTALLS WILL HAVE TO DEPEND UPON THE ECONOMY.GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU AGAIN.YES "DELTA T " IS VERY IMPORTANT WHEN CHECKING A SYSTEM OPERATION.PDF

thanks for the replies and input you guys,
Yes I am aware of the pitfalls of Installations, that is one reason I am needed, so sevice techs wont have to follow-up installers, plus I want to do it,see my company cannot get with the times, so i have a little over a year of Servicing, so now I will get what I can out of Installations, (maybe another year), then put that with another (almost) year of scool, with my attendance record, and GPA, and I will set my own price. there are alot of better companies out their, I am not by any means Bad Mouthing my employer (or am I?) but from what other Graduates of my school, and some fellow employees, as well as the fact everyone we hire don't show up, leads me to beleive all companies are not like this one. I just assume they are, About that purging on installs, Yes, I see it all the time, matter of fact, I was installing a new piston on a Indoor evap Coil, 3 ton Armstrong unit, my boss said it shouldnt take me too long, I asked to borrow a vacuum pump (mine got stolen last year) he told me to purge, I just shook my head, anyways, enough about that, I am taking my vacation next week, then a week after that I will going to Installations, new house, and commercial, and from what my service manager says, will be running calls too.

Just follow the manufacturers instructions on installing. Remember, THEY, are not all the same. All the big guys(Carrier, Trane, Lennox, York) have slightly different charging methods and they do not work with each other. Try it and you'll see. Charge a Carrier with Trane specs. Close, but no cigar. It'll save you big headaches with problem solving after the new install is complete.
