I am building a large deck (860 ft)and am thinking of using an air nailer. I know not the best way but would save time. OK or bad idea?

I will soon need to roof as well, and wondering if there are guns which can go from 1 1/2 to 3 1/2,use ring shank round heads, and use roofing nails.

There are nailers that will do the full round head ring-shanks in the lengths you mentioned, but you won't find one that will also shoot roofing nails. That will take a 2nd gun due to the size of the head. If you don't want to invest $1,000 in nail guns, rent them.
