I have a heat pump with the air handler under the house my problem is that the fan will not shut off after the temp reaches the setting in the house. The out side unit shuts down and comes on with the inside temp setting but the fan runs all the time. I have been under the house and flipped the circut breaker and the fan but it continues to run.
Is this something I can fix or shoul I call a pro out to take a look. thank you.

sure your tstat is not in the fan on position. If it is not then your fan relay could be the problem. The contacts have probably stuck in the closed position.PDF

Thank you PDF , that sounds logical, is that relay located in the tstat or under the house in the air handler? Is this something I will be able to replace or should I just go ahead and call for a tech.

With power off remove panel.More than likely the relay will have 4 wires.2 are the low voltage leads,2 are the high voltage leads. The 2 high volt leads will go to fan motor. To double check if relay is the problem, remove a low vlotage lead and turn power back on.If fan starts the relay is stuck.Give us a yell back as to what occured.PDF

Have new respect for people in this trade!!! unit under the house is a BARD model# D30EHQ. Fan motor has only 3 wires going to it yellow red and blk. yellow is spliced together with two wires coming out of main power source. red wire is not hooked to anything it is just laying inside with tape on the end , blk wire is hooked up to small black switch with 5 other wires coming out of it. I disconnected each wire at a time and turned power back on the fan came back on with each until I disconnected the blk wire. Power on with blk wire disconnected fan did not run. Thanks for taking me this far should I keep on or am I in over my head.

PDF Was the small box that the blk power wire coming from the fan motor was hooked to the relay switch or is it on of the other two switches that had wires hooked up to, the relay switch? I spoke with a local service company who said it was alright to just let the fan run.. Is that wise.
Right now I have everything turned off I don't know if I should just hook it back up or replace it.

Hi Floyd,
Go to T-Stat,set Heat-Cool Lever to Off and Fan Lever to Auto. Now,go to Air Handler and turn OFF power to unit. Disconnect Black wire coming from fan motor to the switch (leave other wires attached-remove Black only from switch)and turn power back on.If Fan/Blower does NOT come on with Black disconnected but will come ON if you connect the Black wire back to switch, then your fan relay contacts are stuck closed, replace switch/relay (the one the Black Power Wire from the fan motor was hooked to).
It doesn't hurt Blower to run all the time,it's really just personal preference, as for me, I prefer to have it come on/off as needed.Hope this helps.Take Care and let us know end results please.
