I have a Trane Electronic Ignition gas furnace mfg 1995. Model # TXCO36C4HPB1. When the heat has been running for a few minutes (usually after bumping the thermostat up in the mornings, or after returning home in the evenings) the unit acts as if it has completed it's task and is shutting off. The fans continue to run a few seconds. (Cool down, I assume?) Then a click-click-click from it is heard, and the burners restart and it restarts the cycle..does not kick off. IT is a very loud clicking sound...can be heard from rooms away. IF I then turn the thermostat down, it will shut off. It doesnt do this all the time, is a sporadic problem. I had a worker listen for it during my preseason check last fall, but like a car or a sick child, it appeared fine while he was here.... Any suggestions?

This is a gas pack outside the house from the model numbers.
Assuming the duct work is in the crawl, so is the t'stat control wiring. Does the problem seem to happen when it is damp? Does your crawl get damp or wet? I would first ohm out the t'stat wire. More than 1 ohm resistance will cause such a problem with Trane units. Also if the t'stat wire is less than 18gauge it can cause the same type of problem.
