How can you remove old paint from wood. There are spots here and there on the border and floor.

I just moved into a house built in 1913. There were paint drops on the floor in the diningroom and livingroom. I used a wet #0000 Steel Wool to buff off the paint dribbles. It took a little elbow grease. As soon as the weather is warm enough, I will open the doors and windows and use a paste wax and buffer.
