We have a shower but want to install a tub. The shower has about a six inch high and wide concrete rim that runs along its side to keep the water on the inside of the shower. When we install the tub can we rest the front lip on that concrete rim and screw the back into the studs in the wall or do we have to knock out this rim and rest the tub on the floor(flat surface) then screw the back into the studs?

You can do it either way, but don't forget that the tub has to be supported in the middle as well. Plus the drin for a shower is typically in the center and a tub is at the edge, so that will have to be moved, too.
