I was staining our door which has an oak veneer over the surface. I left the stain on to long in a small area and it is to dark. What are my options to lighten it? Do i need to sand it before restaining?

Bleaching will lighten the door overall, but won't remove all the stain. I'd suggest this first, then if teh results aren't as good as you like, sand before restaining.
