i would like to refinish our kitchen hardwood floors, and I have heard that there is a boat product that is much stronger than polyurathane that you can put on the floors that will really hold up for a very long time. I have five small children and I need something that can withstand alot of dropped food or spilled drinks. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Patsy,
The only boat product I can think of would be spar urethane. Not a good choice for hardwood floors because it is for exterior use and never completely cures hard. It stays flexible and expands and contracts with the weather.
Two or three coats of a quality polyurethane will hold up to your spills, however, scratches will eventually show up on all hardwood floors. The more often it is cleaned, the less chance for dirt, sand, etc. to scratch the surface.
