I have bedroom furniture that is 10-12 years old, but is in good shape. The furniture is black lacquer with a green marble design trim and gold accent strips and handles. I would like something neutral so I can change color schemes and fabric patterns whenever I choose. I'm not sure if I can sand & paint it, considering it's not made of solid wood. I think it's more like pressed board or something like that. Is there anything at all that I can do without buying all new furniture? Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

Angelo:
What you have can be painted - it doesn't need to be stripped first.
Sand thoroughly - you don't have to remove the finish, just dull it completely.
Prime (2 coats) with a good primer such as BIN or KILZ - sanding lightly after each coat to remove irregularities.
Paint with the paint of your choice - either oil or waterbase will work with either of these two primers.
