I have a covered front porch which is otherwise opened to the elements. The porch extends over a portion of the basement and is beginning to leak. It is an older home and the porch appears to be made of plank boards, covered with linoleum, and then with outdoor carpet. Obviously it must be replaced. What is the best method of repair with proper waterproofing? Appreciate any information you can give.

As long as you leave the sides open to the weather, you will be fighting water leaks in the basement, or at least leave youself wide open for them to start. Would be less expensive and a lot easier to maintain if you enclosed the sides.
