I just removed old varnish from a pair of mahogany end tables. Wood is in excellent condition, but the stain left on is way to dark. Can the old stain be removed for a more natural appearance? Thanks in advance for any advice. Ruben

Ruben:

Better paint stores and most home centers carry a 2-part bleach. It's literally two containers, one having sodium hydroxide, the other hydrogen peroxide. Mixed together, these two form a very powerful oxidizing agent which should lighten the owod considerably.
