just replaced the railing on the front porch of our house (about 1 month ago) was looking at our handy work to day and noticed that all of the pressure treated lumber had shrunk in length (some about 1 inch) what can I do to fix this (I assume replace the lumber that shrunk) and if I replace it what can I do to prevent this from happening a second time?

The pressure treated wood was probabably wet when you installed it, as it dries it shrinks. Let the wood dry for a few days before you cut it and it shouldn't shrink as much.
