we are finishing our front porch. I would like to know where I can find different designs for the pickets. I have looked on the web and have not been able to find anything.
If someone knows please reply! jhlawson

I use the library a lot. I don't know what the style of your home is but you can find books on "period" houses and they will have pictures of those homes, and you can make up your own by copying or designing your own from a couple of them put together. You might even find some books just on porches. Ask the librarian for help if you can't find what you're looking for.

If this porch is more than 30" above grade, the railing has to meet the applicable codes. Has to be at least 36" tall, and designed so that a 4" ball cannot be passed through it. The railing for the stairs would have to meet the same requirements, except that little triangle formed by the stair tread, stair riser, and the railing bottom has to be small enough so that a 6" ball cannot pass through it.
