I have redecorated the living room in a Victorian decor, i.e. whitewashed pedestals, wrought iron glass coffee table, etc. The red brick fireplace looks out of place. How can I cover up the brick completely and get a whitewashed effect. I do have want to knock down all the bricks because it's too big of a job. I just want to cover it up somewhow. Help...thanks.

You can install flat 2X4s on the brick and sheetrock to them to cover it up.
