I want to change the tiled fireplace surround to brick, and build an aprox 1.5' brick ledge/seat. Are there specific materials I need to use?

What is the tile adhered to? Chisel it off. Tile over brick is doable. Real brick over glazed ceramic tile is
not. Simulated "brick tile" over tile is doable.
