This may belong in the fireplace forum but I thought "brick people" might know. Can I put ceramic tile over my brick fireplace? If so , do I have to put up some kind of backing over the brick first or can I just tile right over it? Thanks for youor help.

Yes, you can. There are a number of older posts in the Ceramic Tile forum that will tell you how, etc.. Click search above, enter fireplace, and isolate the search to the Ceramic Tile forum.
