In an attempt to lighten a basement darkened by 1970s fake wood paneling (ugh!), I'd like to paint it over with a latex interior paint (a lighter color). What type of primer material is best for this job? Thanks.

Use a product called killz to prime.

Yes, use Kilz. I painted over dark paneling and it looks very good.

I didn't and it looks like crap, plan on redoing it! Lol!
