What other colors are in the room? It sounds like you should stay with a cool palete. Even if you go with a red (normally considered a warm color), if it is a deep blue based red it would go well with the mahogany because it is a cool red. What are your favorite colors? Put a paint chip in these colors next to the items you mentioned and see how they look. If you like them paint a small section near them (or on a board large enough to see the true color and effect of the paint) and see if you still like it. As for faux finished walls, there are many techniques to choose from. There are many books about painting faux. You can also go to your home improvement store and check out the many free booklets that tell you how to do several popular ones. It sounds as if you are going for something elegant. Stripes are elegant and not to hard. You can make the stripes any width you want. You can even make it tone on tone. Hope this helped.

gini, thankyou for the reply,I have thought about doing a color wash fax finish on walls using 3 colors, pale yellow&gold&scalet hue so it almost looks like a water color effect, the cellings are very high with boxed lighting wich covers the entire celling so i think it would look good ?.

I would test it out on a board first so you don't do the whole room and decide you don't like it. Any faux painting takes time. Why waste it on doing the whole room when you can be sure you will love it by doing a test. As for the colors, you chose two cool colors and one warm (gold). Keep this color as an accent in your painting and I am sure it will be beautiful. Just so you will know, putting colors together correctly is part of what I do for a living.
