My 30 year old home has those dreaded popcorn ceilings. In addition, there are some water stains that keep coming through the touchup paint, and a few cracks to boot. I would like to get rid of the ceilings altogether, and I'm wondering if there are any creative alternatives to drywall. I saw some homes in the Caribbean with ceilings that looked like painted wood boards - I really liked the look, but don't know a good way to achieve it. I'm also open to other ideas. It's a small single story home with a flat roof (no attic).
