My partner and I are going to wallpaper steel columns in a business. Do I prep the columns as I would paneling, and also which way to run my paper, horizontal or vertical? Any tips on cutting the paper so the seams will not show. I'am not sure, but think the paper will be a marble look without a pattern match. I've not wallpapered on a circular surface, so any tips will be helpful. Thank-you!

Probably a good idea to use a good metal primer for starters.
hang the paper verticaly. make a plumb line from top to bottom and hang the first piece to that line.
Trim top and bottom.
butt the seams to the next piece and so on till you get an overlap(1st & last piece) Then cut through (splice)both pieces with a sharp snap off type knife from top to bottom.
finally peel away the waste strips (2 of them) smooth down and clean with a sponge.
