My entry way is brick (4' X 5') which steps out to a cement patio and a "L" shaped sidewalk. I would like to brick in the patio and sidewalk to create a larger "Brick Patio". The problem is that the sidewalk is sloped for drainage purposes.
Do I just float thicker on the lower part of the sidewalk directly on to the existing sidewalk? I know I will still need a slight slope for drainage, but the existing slope is much more than is neccesary.

More mortar? Yes. Remember to carry control and isolation joints in the concrete through the brickwork. For example, if the sidewalk abuts the patio do not span that gap with a brick or fill the joint with mortar. Instead of mortar at this joint use backer rod and a colored elastomeric caulk (hardware stores carry small tubes; masonry supplies carry larger ones).
