We are refinishing the plaster walls in our master bedroom. There are the expected cracks and nicks to repair, but there is also a layer of sealant or primer that has been virtually impossible to remove. This coating has chipped away in a number of places, giving the walls a very uneven surface. What is the best way to get a smooth finish for our walls; do we sand down to the plaster or put a new layer on top of everything? If the latter, what is the best technique?
