View Full Version : Do I Have An Antique Bureau?

I own a large bureau and would like to know if it classifies as an antique. I am close to completing a new bureau that I fashioned after the old one and need to decide what to do with the old one. I don't want to refinish it if it is an antique. I think it is made of cherry but I'm not certain of that. It has two large drawers with two smaller drawers side-by-side over them. The large drawers have keyholes and locks. It has a swivel mirror on top that sits between nicely turned posts. I have one hint as to its age. When I took the back of the mirror off, the mirror itself (I am assuming it is the original)was stamped, "1920". I am guessing it is a "federal" style bureau. Any thoughts on where I can learn if it is an antique?
