I have a fireplace constructed of PINK masonry which I believe is called Perma Stone. The room is very dark and I want to make the masonry lighter as it covers about 4/5 of the wall from floor to ceiling. I had already purchased primer when I readabout the H & C sold by Sherwin Williams.
Would it be possible to stain a dusky pink perma stone to a cream color with the H & C? In other could one go from darker to lighter as well as the reverse?

Two coats of stain may be necessary. Up or down the color scale is possible within reasonable limits but not for an extended number of times. Radical changes or infinitesimal changes within the same hue usually turn out poorly, so choose your color well.
