My home was built in early 1950.Bathroom has pink and maroon tile. I have started to remove from countertop. My question is how other than jack hammer can this be done. The tile is set in at least an inch or more of cement like material. What a mess. Help please any suggestions. Thanks.

SLR,
Sorry but, there is no other way if all you want to remove is the tile. What you can do though, is remove the entire top. Tile, mud, plywood, everything and replace it with new plywood, then installing a backerboard, then the new tile over that. You would of course have to remove and replace the sink but that should not be too difficult. That is probably what I would do if the tile was that hard to remove.

And just what is wrong with pink and maroon? It could just as easily have been ugly gray with green trim. Or yellow with black trim.

Just kidding. Rick is right. Tile installations were meant to stay put back in those days. I know. I was there.

Thanks Tileman and John.Removing entire top at one time sounds like a better way to go. Will try.
