I am going to remove the old vinyl floor in
upstairs laundry room. I am considering
tile floor. Do you recommend that the concrete
board be used on top of the floor? When
I remove the vinyl, I'll be down to subfloor that
is original to house. House is 20 years old.
Again, thank all that take time to answer. This
is a great website for useful information!!!

Yes, Kathy, the backer board is recommended. Follow the manufacturer's instructions. It's just an opinion, but I think Hardi-backer is pretty good stuff.

Thank you, John. Saw product at Lowes. Still waiting
for your book to arrive at local bookstore. Afer I have
read it, I'll be ready to try to install tile floor.

Hi Kathy,
The book does not cover the backer installation, but that part is easy. Follow the directions from the maker. The book does cover everything else, including the all-important layout stage. You'll be tiling like a pro before you know it.

Sure hope so, John. Maybe I'll start a second career.
I have twin girls that are graduating from high school
in June. They don't know it yet, but they are going to help
too. Maybe they will want to learn a trade instead
of going to college.
Thanks again.
