muratic acid for pools is inexpensive...and works great...dilute it...approx 1 cup of acid to 1 pail of water...apply it with a rag....then rince..and that will remove it...make sure you wear rubber gloves..long sleeves...etc....and protective glasses...cause muratic acid burns the skin....and make sure the area is well ventalated..a mask is a must...it's a smelly job...but it's effortless to do...just do it safely...with no kids or pets around...it worked for me...good luck

Do NOT use muriatic acid! If it's used, it should be used by professionals. If you have a definite build-up of thin set left on the tile, you are in trouble. It'll need to be chipped off. If it's a filmy residue, it can be removed with sulfamic acid crystals, which won't harm the tiles. You can get sulfamic at tile supply stores.
