View Full Version : Hardiebacker Question

Where my hardiebacker meets the tub flange, I've got a 1/4" gap between the two, just as specified by Hardie. I assume that we don't want the two touching to eliminate any possibility of water wicking up into the board -- which I think it might actually do if it was given the opportunity.

My instinct wants to run a bead of silicone between the hardiebacker and the tub flange. Any problem doing this that I'm missing?

The first inch or so of the bottom tile will be over the flange, rather than the backer board. I know I want a bead of silicone between the tile and the tub, but instinct wants to fill any voids between the tile and flange with silicone. I guess my father just taught me to silicone the heck outta any place where I'm trying to prevent water from going. :)

I don't see any problem here, but I'm not perfect -- am I missing anything?
